John Shalhoup, Retired Vice President and General Manager, Yamaha Corporation of America.

John is a customer centric, purpose driven leader with 34 years of experience leading successful sales and marketing teams. During his tenure at Yamaha Corporation of America, John amassed extensive knowledge of wholesale distribution and omni-channel retail in the Musical Instrument industry. His team launched up to 150 new products each year and managed over 1,000 product lifecycles.

John was responsible for sales, marketing, inventory control, budgeting, recruitment and onboarding. He managed relationships with retail partners including Amazon, Best Buy, Guitar Center and The Walt Disney Company.  In 2015, John turned his focus to leading his employees through a series of industry challenges. He developed a leadership style that would inspire innovation, collaboration and a compassionately inclusive workplace.  John retired from Yamaha in July of 2024. He since joined SCORE as a volunteer mentor for small business owners in Beaufort County. John resides in Hilton Head Plantation with his wife Martha and is an active member of the community.
